Implementing script loading after cookie consent
A banner is useful only if it matches what the website actually does. Here is a repeatable integration checklist for a small site.
Inventory before you install
Identify each script and iframe, its publisher, its actual purpose and when it runs. Inspect HTML templates, CMS plugins, tag managers, server-side tags and network requests. Do not label tracking as “necessary” merely because a marketing integration relies on it.
Make optional scripts inert before first paint
Replace each optional <script src="..."> with <script type="text/plain" data-ct-category="analytics" data-ct-src="...">. Load the consent engine in the document head and test on a clean browser. The important guarantee comes from making the original optional tag inert, not from hiding a banner.
Test every choice
Inspect network requests before and after Accept all, Reject optional, Customize and withdrawal. Reload the page after withdrawing and confirm the unapproved tags no longer run. Review cookies left behind by third-party providers separately.
Document your implementation
Keep a manually verified vendor inventory, reasons for category assignment, policy revision history and a process for responding to customer questions. A browser-local preference is not the same as a centrally retained audit record.
